Aeration needed to help keep fish alive

I have had a rather bad year this year. I have lost 6 of my largest fish in the last 4 weeks. I took the advice of a friend and took my pump out this year as I was told that the water movement does not allow the koi to rest through the winter. I came home tonight to find #6 floating and put the SAVIO waterfall pump back in and got it running at full power. The pond smells like sulfur, badly. I have not yet tested the water but I am going to do so. I will also take 10% of the water off tomorrow and replace it with fresh. I am also looking at the water softener treatment for salt. I have a 6000 gallon pond. I am going with 1 pound per 100 gallons for 3 days. I was told to talk to you about an air stone, heater and oxygenation opening for the ice opening. I am looking for ANY help you can give me in keeping the rest of my fish alive. There are several more leaves in the pond this year and I di not cut back the Iris plants back this year so the fronds are in the water. If there is any other information I can give to you to figure out what to do with the pond I would be very happy.

I would not put salt in until you have tested the water because if it was my pond stinking I would be be doing a bigger water change than 10%. And the salt you put in will be coming straight back out to waste, so my advice is water test first then water change accordingly. remember we keep water and then put fish in it afterwards, if readings are as I expect (HIGH)then a 50% water change day 1 then retest and if needed another on day 2 because you have to thin out the gases in the water. Clean out all leaves etc and clean filters and then add a filter booster to let them catch up again. If you have bottom drains purge daily. I have not lost any fish for years and years and remember learning the hard way so I know it is like. Hope this helps. dave
