I have a 60 gallon preformed patio pond. I have a pump that recirculates water from the pond up 28'-30' to the top of a small stream that then feeds the pond. I am looking at keeping the pump running all winter and need a small pond heater to keep the pond and water from freezing. No fish in the pond, but the water source would be good for local wildlife. Most of winter is in the 20's, but Jan-Feb can get to Zero. I am looking at a sinking 1500W heater, and a 1250W floating as an alternative. Will these work as I am anticipating? On the sinking model, how far does it have to be from the pump to not damage the pump?
