Winter in my Pond-What Heater should I use?

I have no fish in my garden pond right now. I'd like to know if I need to put a heater in for the winter so the pipes won't freeze? This is the first winter with the pond for me and have no idea what I need to do. I'd appreciate your help. Thank you!
